Sacrifices are Worth It

Today I started working at the Canyons School District as an Elementary School Technical Support Specialist. "But wait! Didn't you just post about getting a job at Aculus as a Jr. Web Data Engineer?" you might ask. Well, this week I'm going to be working an 80 hr week. Forty for the Canyons School District and then another forty for Aculus. "Why?" you might ask. I had applied to the Canyons School District long before I interviewed with Aculus and my preference would have been to work in the school district but I didn't hear from them for quite a while so I thought that they weren't interested and took the job with Aculus thinking that I just needed to get started working. But, low and behold, after working there for about two and a half weeks they call up and want me to interview with them. I do and it turned out that they wanted to hire me for one of their IT positions. Apparently, since the school district just split from Jordan School District they've just been extremely busy. But now so that Aculus has time to find another programmer before I actually leave so they won't loose the "head-count" they wanted me to honor two weeks notice the day after telling that they didn't need two weeks notice. So I'm working two full-time jobs this week and then I'll be on unpaid leave next week so they have a couple of weeks to find someone to find my seat. Just for a little background, by the way, I felt really uneasy about everything when I was there. For instance, it took a week and a half from the time I started working there until they even mentioned the necessary paperwork (I9, W4, direct-deposit, health insurance), they really didn't have any assignments for me during that time as well and then three days ago I found out that the guy working right beside me who was working on the same project that I was and had the same team lead and project manager was actually hired under a company named eHarbor not Aculus (Something just smells fishy.) But that's almost behind me now, only a week left to go. The Canyons School District is a 180 degree difference. On the first day I had all of my equipment (including MacBook Pro and Blackberry Curve), all of my paperwork done, and given assignments. The people are a not more personable and professional as well. I'm really excited. Anyhow, one of the major things that was concerning me was the question, "Will I regret having a one month only job on my resume?" After experiencing the differences in working environments I will say that I don't regret it in the least! »
